Faven Ann Yacob
Age: 9.3 months
Weight: 15 lbs 9 oz (7 percentile)
Height: 28.5 inches (65 percentile)
Faven is tall and lean...just as we suspected. The doctor said she is growing wonderfully as a petite little girl at the moment. That might change in a few months down the road- here is hoping for some new rolls!
Faven only gained 1 lb 9 oz from her last well visit at 6 months. This slow weight gain is to be expected at this age, according to her doctor. Many parents introduce solid foods when their baby is around 6 months of age so it makes sense that between 6 months and 12 months, most babies don't take much of a leap in weight gain as babies do between birth to 6 months. I know us parents and grandparents equate LBs with good health, but this is not the case here. Believe me - her size was a topic of concern in our household. It was nice to be assured that she is happy and healthy.
Eat
Faven drinks 5 bottles of formula 5 times a day about every 3 hours. Side note: she stopped drinking breast milk when she was 6.5 months. Faven drinks between 4 to 6 oz of formula at each feeding except for her last bottle. She only drinks about 1-2 oz right before she goes to bed. She eats 2-3 oz of pureed vegetables or fruits 3 times a day with 1- 1.5 oz of formula mixed with wheat baby cereal between her bottles twice a day.
We have not introduced table foods as she just mastered the "skill" of eating Puffs. The last couple of times we gave her anything chunky (ie. peas w/ rice) she threw it right up. The doctor advised us to slowly start giving her table food in the next few weeks/months. In addition milk and purees, she eats foods through a net, sucks on wheels and mum-mums.
There are about 140 calories in a 6 oz bottle vs. 40 calories in a jar of veggies. Faven's doctor recommends that she consumes 27 oz of formula a day to help increase her body weight.

Sleep
Faven goes down around 6pm and wakes around 5:30am. She sleeps through the night. She rarely cries at night and if she does she goes back to bed in minutes without our help.
On a good day, she will take two 30 minute to 1 hour naps, usually totally only 1 1/2 hours of sleep at daycare (arrive at daycare at 7am, pick up at 4:15pm). Because it's quiet at home on the weekends, she catches up on her Zs (total 2-3 1/2 hours (2 naps)). At 8 months she no longer sleeps in a sleep snack. She wears pants and a onesie to bed. We live in AZ, it's too warm to put her in PJs with footies!
At bedtime, we feed her 2 oz of formula, read her a few books, and let her crawl around her room for a few minutes. After she pushes away her bottle for the 100th time, we lay her in bed, turn on her lullaby sea horse, pat her back for less than a minute and quietly walk out of the room. She continues to sleep with the sound machine on "waterfall" option. Today we put her crib mattress down to the lowest setting.

Movement & Play
She still likes to play in her exersaucer. She pulls herself up on her own but not often. Faven really likes to stand with our help. She sits alone and on her knees. She crawls extremely fast and can even crawl up one or two stairs!

Faven is enjoying reading more and more. She especially likes the book titled "How Big is Baby Elmo" and any other books that are interactive (ie. pop-up and peek a boo books). Faven especially likes to play with blocks, rattles, sound machines, musical instruments, and her pop up animal toy. Faven LOVES music and breaks it down any chance she gets. Her favorite source of entertainment is watching Layla crawl, jump, and dance around!
