Faven devours her delicate tongue breakfast, lunch and dinner. We thought that she only gnaws on her tongue when concentrating on a difficult task (ie. doing puzzles, picking up small objects, ect.), but we recently noticed that she chews on it all day long. It's getting to the point where she bites on it so frequently a bruise has developed on the side of her tongue. I don't think she is bothered by it but it doesn't look pretty. We will assume it's just a phase and let her go about her business until (if) other symptoms arise.
Faven isn't the only one biting things other than food and chew toys. Layla accidentally takes hard bites of her cheek, tongue, lip and an occasional finger a few times a week at meal time. When Layla bursts into tears in the middle of a snack we can assume she didn't just bite into pita and hummus or Teddy Grams. We acknowledge that she is in a lot of pain and slowly change the subject. Ugh. It' makes me cringe just thinking about it. Painful!
