"More Books, Please"

Books, books, and more books! We are so glad that Layla is and has been infatuated with books since she was just a little raisin baby many months ago (see a video of Layla "reading" at 8 weeks here). Every evening, we sit with Layla and read, at the very least, 5 books, sometimes almost all of her books in her bookshelf in one sitting. After reading a book, she turns to Joey and I and says/signs, "more books, please". She climbs down from the couch and grabs another book and climbs back up... one book at a time. It's amazing how attentive and enthusiastic a toddler can be when a good book is in hand.

Above is a picture of a few of Layla's favorite books right now.
  • "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" is in constant rotation. We can read the book without looking down at the words.
  • "What Am I?" is a great book about bugs, something she is very aware of. She has a half a dozen bug bites on the back for her legs and mistakes lint and crumbs for bugs.
  • "Potty Time with Elmo" is a fan favorite, given the theme of the book. For something more visual that will definitely knock your socks off, check out "Elmo's Potty Time" musical clip.
  • "Pumpkin Day, Pumpkin Night" is a book we checked out of the library recently and is appropriate for the season. Layla loves pumpkins!
Our family encourages Layla to read and occasionally mails her fun new books. She especially enjoys getting pop-up books like the one Meg and Timmy bought her a while back. See a video here.
Layla's sling bookshelf sits in the living room...which lends a hand to a quick read with Mom and Dad any time of day. Her overflow of books are hidden inside the coffee table.

Love the little reader! Carter is becoming a big reader too, can't wait for them to read together. Only complaint is that I gave her that animal pop-up book, not Grammy....
