The Little Gym

Arizona summers are brutal. I don't care if the heat is dry rather than humid, it's HOT. Beyond hot, broiling on high in the oven HOT! We had an abnormally cool May this year, but it didn't last long. Come June, temperatures climbed to 111 degrees. Now what do you do with an active 16 month old on the weekends? Kids out here don't seem to mind the heat. In the middle of a Saturday afternoon, we will often see children of all ages playing soccer, baseball, ect. AHH! Turn on the sprinkler systems in the fields!!! Maybe I am just getting old.

So instead of goofing around outside all day last weekend, Layla and I went to a 45 minutes parent/toddler class at the "The Little Gym". It was fun to see how well Layla followed directions and focused on the task at hand. She tried just about everything in kid size gymnastic facility. She held on to the uneven bars, jumped onto the crash mat, climbed up an inclined mat and went through an over sized padded doughnut hole, and walked across the balance beam. She loved dancing to the music, running through a cloud of mini bubbles, and gathering as many squishy prickly bouncy balls as she could. A hundred balls and bubbles in one room, a toddlers dream come true!

The program director took some video of class that day and sent us a short clip of Layla. This wasn't her most favorite exercise.
